Taiwan Company STC Optical Filter introduces four NEW concept filters in 2017 PDN PhotoPlus Expo. The most eye-catching design is Clip-in Filter within Canon Full-Frame/APS-C, Nikon Full-Frame/APS-C, SONY Full-Frame/APS-C, PENTAX APS-C, Fujifilm APS-C and Olympus M43 camera body. For astrophotographers, Clip Filter with Astro glass can effectively block artificial light, intensify nebula emission lines, and simultaneously solve color shift problem due to optical interference coating. For infrared and long exposure photography, it’s efficient to change lens without removing filters. Framed by Teflon stainless steel and sponge, STC Clip filter is non-magnetic and it can even become a strong barrier for your CMOS sensor.
STC CTO William Wu gratefully announced that Canon Full-Frame Clip Filter MarkⅡwill be presented by the end of 2017, the new structure won’t block the mirror flipping down. It can work well on Canon EOS 5D Mark IV/5DSR/1DX/1DX markII, and make it available to take photo through the optical view finder compare to current design.
Another more creative concept is the STC E-Warmer Defog Filter which is global primary electrically conductive filter for solving lens fogging particularly long exposures on cold nights. The 1mm SCHOTT® B270 optical glass applies ITO (Indium tin oxide) clear coating, and connects to the semiconductor-based sensor that can be mounted on hot shoe. Portable power bank and USB2.0 are cable of offering a linear response to heat up the filter glass evenly and users are free to choose 10˚F or 20˚F difference of the dew-point from ambient temperature. It will become available in January 2018.
One more breakthrough product is the STC Astro Duo-Narrowband filter for capturing specific wavelengths of gaseous and planetary nebulae. Of particular interest to astrophotographers is the Hα emissionline at 656nm and OIII lines at 500nm. STC Astro Duo-Narrowband filter performed high transmissions in 5nm, blocked the longer wavelengths and made the post production easier on a single filter. The developing and improving of IBAD (Ion Beam-assisted deposition) and AR coating technology ensures the image quality and also realizes STC’s dream to access the field of coating on wafers.
Last but Most Importantly, STC won 2017 Reddot design award for its Aqua-Red Underwater fader. Applied new polarizing material, STC developed a NEW Aqua-Rose Underwater Fader that the filter color turn from neutral to red while rotating the frame. It can then available from ground to 18m deep in the sea. It works well on adjusting image quality and depth of field caused by longer wavelength red and orange light absorbed by the water. The scenery will then be corrected and become more vivid.
Moreover, STC cross-over to mobile phone photography again collaborate with Innerexile to build a series of filters fit for mobile phone camera lens. With its abundant functions like CPL that removes the reflection, VND that will moderate the brightness, ICELAVA that change the color temperature, infrared filter that strengthen the color detail, are designed to fulfill the creativity of every mobile phone photographer.
